“A Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted,” July 2

Share article

GREENSBORO – “We The People” are invited to the Greensboro Free Library on Thursday, July 2, at 4 p.m., for “A Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted,” a Vermont Humanities program with John Vincent of A Revolutionary Press. This hands-on presentation explores the history of printing during the American Revolution. When the handwritten Declaration of Independence reached a local print shop in July 1776, it had to be set by hand, one letter at a time, locked into a press bed, and pulled by hand, one copy at a time. Vincent will invite attendees to gather around an old printing press and consider how deliberate, printed words helped shape the Revolution of 1776. Participants will also learn about the work of A Revolutionary Press in New Haven. Those attending may have the opportunity to pull a broadside and bring home a print from the event. The program is free and open to the public.
