HANOVER, N.H. – Recently-graduated Twinfield-Cabot standout Jola Otten will put a bow on an outstanding high school soccer career later this month at the 51st Lions Cup All-Star Match.
Otten had a stellar senior campaign for a record-breaking Caledonia United (Twinfield-Cabot-Danville) boys soccer team last fall, leading the program to its first undefeated regular season (16-0) and its first Division IV State Championship match. Cal United ultimately fell to top-seeded Twin Valley (17-0), 2-0, to earn State Runner-up honors at Rutland High School. Otten formed a three-headed monster with Vermont All-State teammates Eli Russel and Sam McLane as Cal United outscored its opponents 90-10 throughout its historic run. Otten scored a career-high 14 goals and was a First Team All-Mountain League selection.
Joining Otten on the Vermont Lions Cup roster this summer are: Randolph’s Zane Cooper and George Rosalba, Mount Mansfield’s Levi Causey and Otis Lee, Twin Valley’s Tucker Magnant, Montpelier’s Will Curtis, Burlington’s Faraja Diedonre, Peoples Academy’s Noah Brown, CVU’s Sebastian Bronk, Will Wallace and Julian Olin, Harwood’s Brycen Scharff and Emmanuel Mego-Vasquez, Mount Abraham’s James Graziedei, South Burlington’s Sebastian Bertmann, West Rutland’s Brayden Schutt, Burr & Burton Academy’s Bodie Smith, Eagan Murray and Ethan Pringle-Corcoran of Essex, Ryker Mosehauer of Vergennes and Evan Bretton of Rice.
Each year, over 80 graduating high school seniors from New Hampshire and Vermont schools are selected by the N.H. & Vt. Coaches Associations to square off on the soccer pitch. In a joint initiative, the neighboring states’ Lions organizations established the annual competition in 1975.
The matches, made possible by the Lions Twin State Association, will be played at Hanover High School in New Hampshire on Saturday, July 18. The Boys All-Stars are scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m., followed by the Girls All-Stars at 4 p.m.
