STAMFORD, Conn. – Several area athletes are wrapping up their summer baseball seasons after successful stints on the diamond for their respective Babe Ruth teams.

Hazen Union athletes representing Vermont on the Lamoille team at the 28U New England Babe Ruth tournament in Stamford, Conn., were Chayse Newell, Grayson McNaughten and Avery Loomis.

Hazen Union’s Grayson McNaughten, Chayse Newell and Avery Loomis represented Vermont out of Lamoille (Hazen, Lyndon, Northfield) over the weekend in the 18U New England Babe Ruth Tournament at Cubetta Stadium. Vermont dropped games to Massachusetts and Connecticut in the tournament to end their season. The Wildcat trio helped lead the Hazen varsity baseball program to an impressive run through the Division IV State Tournament last month, ending with a loss to eventual champ Mount St. Joseph Academy in the Final Four. McNaughten graduated from Hazen in June with an impressive high school resume since transferring from Craftsbury Academy (CA) as a sophomore. McNaughten earned Capital League honors in both soccer and baseball for the Wildcats and was a Vermont All-State selection last fall as one of the best goalkeepers in the state. Newell will be called upon for senior leadership next spring for a talented returning Wildcat core for head baseball coach Shaun Allen, and Loomis will look to take the next step after a promising sophomore campaign. Wildcat teammate Jon Sicard played for the Kingdom All-Stars out of Lyndon this summer after a breakout sophomore season with Hazen. Sicard will be a leader both at the plate and on the mound for Allen next spring. Maddox Robinson has led a core of talented freshmen from both Hazen and CA this summer on the 14U Craftsbury team. Craftsbury is scheduled to wrap up the summer next weekend at the Last Man Standing Tournament in New York.
