The 6-foot-2 right-hander was tied for the team lead in wins (7) for the Stags this past spring and led the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) with a 2.47 ERA. Alekson finished the season with the first complete game win of his young career in the opening round of the MAAC Tournament, lowering his ERA to 16th in the nation. In just three seasons at Fairfield, the former Vermont Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year has tied the program record for wins (22), and his 3.15 career ERA ranks fourth lowest all-time.
Alekson’s teammate Matthew Bucciero was also named to the All-ECAC Team, capping off a historical career for the Stags. The senior outfielder led the MAAC in home runs (20), RBI (57) and slugging percentage (.688) this past spring. Bucciero broke the all-time RBI record in MAAC history with 225 and connected on the second most home runs (56). He leaves Fairfield as the record holder in nearly every offensive category.
Alekson and Bucciero led the Stags to their seventh straight 30-win season and were named MAAC Pitcher and Player of the Year.
