NORTHEAST KINGDOM – Thetford Academy, U-32, Lyndon Institute and North Country dominated All-Capital First Team selections last week.
Thetford’s Xander Oshoniyi led the way with First Team honors and was named Player of the Year after leading the Panthers to their third Division III State Championship in the last four years. Thetford head coach Kris Keelty was named Coach of the Year as his Panthers capped off a perfect 16-0 season with an 8-0 win over Bellows Falls in the title game. Rounding out the First Team selections were: Braden Abrahamson, Kaden Salvador and Carlo Concessi of U-32, Miles Lawrence and Owen Goodrich of Thetford, Tanner Arsenault and Mat Fecteau of Spaulding, Ben West and Zack Fortin of North Country, Jackson Dwyer and Logan Wheeler of Lyndon and Lamoille’s Ryan Germaine.
Hazen Union was struck out on Capital League honors despite strong seasons from seniors Grayson McNaughten, Owen Skorstad and Justin Montgomery. The Wildcats managed just three wins in the regular season, but played their best baseball in the Division IV State Tournament, advancing to the Final Four.
Wheeler, West, Oshoniyi and Concessi will join St. Johnsbury’s Carson Finn on the Vermont Twin State Baseball roster. The annual classic will be played this Saturday at the Maxfield Complex in White River Junction in a doubleheader against New Hampshire
