HARDWICK – Hundreds of people stepped up to help neighbors and strangers alike after July’s flooding. Three free suppers are being held in February to celebrate the ways people came together in a time of great need. Those attending will also be asked to share what they learned through those efforts so that the community can be better prepared for future challenges.
As the town evaluates and updates its emergency response plan for the future, the town manager will be attending each supper to listen to the discussion after the meal. This is part of a larger process of planning that includes surveys being done with local not-for-profits, faith groups, service organizations and more.
All three free suppers will be held at the American Legion at 15 North Main Street in Hardwick. Doors will open for appetizers and a brief local trivia challenge at 4:30 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. or so ending time. A meal with vegetarian options will be served.
To strengthen the sense of neighborhood connectedness, the three events are designed with a focus on areas of town. They are: February 4, west, Bunker Hill, Route 14 North, and West Hill areas; February 18, central, downtown, Hopkins Hill, Bridgman Hill, Mackville, and Route 14 South areas; and February 25, east, East Hardwick village and surroundings, Center Road, and Route 16 areas.
