GREENSBORO – The Greensboro Free Library will host speakers from the Center for Real Dialogue in a free class in the library’s upstairs meeting room on Monday, Oct. 7, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The class is open to everyone.

Real Dialogue is a conflict transformation skill that, when practiced in difficult conversations, helps to avoid polarization by lowering emotional threat, overcoming stereotypes and biases, and transforming breakdowns into breakthroughs. The skill and method of Real Dialogue heal divisions by allowing both sides to be respected, fostering a resilient and creative social and emotional environment.

This class may be useful for those who are tired of conflicts and misunderstandings; struggling to get points across; avoiding conflicts; facing family estrangement, divorce or alienation or dealing with disputes at work or feeling hopeless about political polarization.

In the two hour introduction, attendees will learn about human emotions and the tendency to develop and confirm bias and stereotypes, as well as how to work with emotional triggering during conflict in order to become a more authentic speaker and a better listener.

The class introduces three key skills: speaking for yourself, listening mindfully and remaining curious. These practices are said to increase problem-solving abilities and reduce polarization at home, work and in the our community.
The Center for Real Dialogue aims to end polarization in relationships at home, work and beyond by teaching skills to transform relationships by breaking cycles of emotional disrespect and violence, fostering unity and connection. The mission is to equip people with healthy dialogue skills, reduce emotional threats and biases and promote inclusive problem-solving.
