CRAFTSBURY — Craftsbury Academy will host a debate between Orleans County’s two Vermont Senate candidates, Republican Samuel A. Douglass and Democrat Katherine Sims, on Wednesday, Oct. 23. The two are vying for the vacant seat of Senator Robert Starr of North Troy, who served as Orleans County’s lone senator since 2005. The event will be held at 1 p.m., in Craftsbury Academy’s World War II Memorial Gymnasium and will feature a question-and-answer session for the candidates addressing a range of topics important to the Northeast Kingdom. Following the debate, there will be a candidate meet-and-greet. For questions about the event, contact School Principal Lisa McCarthy at [email protected]. This event is being organized and planned by the middle and high school students and staff of Craftsbury Academy, and is intended to showcase the importance of the local democratic process in the community.
