To the editor:
I have attached a transcript of my remarks, accepting a nomination to the Greensboro Select Board, March 4.
“Thank you, I really appreciate your support and your confidence in me.
First, a word about the professional experience that I would bring to this role: I received an MBA from the Wharton School of the U of Pennsylvania in 1980; Since then, I’ve spent most of [my] career managing the finances of nonprofit organizations with budgets ranging from $1 million to $50 million a year; along the way I’ve gained experience with budgets, audits, legal matters, investments, employee benefits and construction projects.
“My wife, Sarah Lammert, and I bought our house here in Greensboro in 2017, almost eight years ago. Since then, I’ve been fortunate to get involved in the town’s life in several ways: I’ve served on the Development Review Board for three years; I’ve volunteered at the recycling center since the start of the pandemic in 2020, and I have volunteered for the Hardwick [Area] Food Pantry; I’ve served on the boards of the Rural Arts Collaborative (formerly WonderArts) and the Craftsbury Community Care Center. And last year I was on the Funky Fourth Committee; finally, I’ve been pleased to serve on the Steering Committee of the Habitat for Humanity affordable housing project in the Bend. Special shout out to Kent Hansen for his leadership on this project.
“In taking on the challenge of the Selectboard, I start with the assumption that we all love our town and want what’s best for it. I also assume that there will be disagreement. That’s inevitable because we’re all human. But it’s also good, disagreement, respectfully engaged in, leads to better decisions. What we need most is a spirit of community, collaboration and mutual respect.
Greensboro is a great community, and Sarah and I are so grateful to have landed here. If the townspeople vote to elect me to serve on the select board, I will be honored and do my best to serve you all to the best of my ability.”
