VERMONT – Susan Dunklee is the most decorated U.S. women’s biathlete with two silver medals at World Biathlon Championships in 2017 and 2020. She will be one of ten people to be inducted into the Vermont Sports Hall of Fame on April 25 in Burlington, along with moguls skiing star Hannah Kearney.

Dunklee grew up in Barton and ran and skied for St. Johnsbury Academy. She went to Dartmouth College first as a runner but she made her way onto the Cross Country Ski team as well. She remembers showing up at dryland training for skiing and the coach did not know who she was. She quickly changed that, earning all-American honors a few years later. She switched to biathlon following college and just missed making the U.S. Olympic team in Vancouver in 2010. She went on to compete in the next three winter Olympics along with the two to three World Cup races most weekends on the biathlon circuit from 2012-2022. She moved to Craftsbury to take on coaching and event organizing at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. She has helped revive biathlon competitions in the Quebec and the Northeast so that both young and old from novice to experienced can have a chance to explore and learn biathlon skills.
