HARDWICK – A recent notice from the Hardwick Electric Department (HED) titled, “Scam Alert,” warned that customers of other Vermont utilities have been visited by people in unmarked vehicles impersonating electric utility personnel asking for payment to prevent disconnects.
“Neighboring utilities have experienced an unmarked vehicle showing up at houses and trying to collect money for disconnects,’ wrote HED. “All HED vehicles are marked with Hardwick Electric stickers.”
HED staff will not accept payments in the field, they reported.
HED asked that anyone with suspicions about being approached for payment report the incident to proper authorities and “If you are unsure about a vehicle being from HED, please contact our office at (802) 472-5201.”
