LYNDONVILLE – Decorated North Country girls head basketball coach Sarah Roy has been elected the new president of the Vermont Basketball Coaches Association (VBCA).
Roy, a graduate of Lyndon State College (VTSU-Lyndon) and a member of the VBCA Board of Directors for the past five years, has become one of the state’s most respected coaches and advocates for student-athletes. She currently serves as student engagement coordinator at North Country Union High School and has dedicated her career to developing young athletes in the classroom and on the court.

“I am incredibly honored to represent the VBCA as the next president,” said Roy. “The VBCA’s motto, ‘Making Basketball Better in Vermont,’ is more than a phrase: it is a mission we as coaches and educators live every day. Our commitment to mentorship, sportsmanship, accountability and team values supports the development of the next generation of student-athletes. As we look ahead, I am excited to work with our executive director, board and coaches across the state to build on our strong foundation while embracing the modern era. Together, we will continue to evolve, innovate and provide every student-athlete with opportunities to grow both on and off the court,”
Roy’s high school coaching accomplishments are among the most impressive in the state over the last six years. She guided the North Country varsity girls basketball program to a 110-17 record over that span, including a perfect 24-0 season in 2023. The Lady Falcons captured two Division II State Championships under Roy, four Division II state title games and a Final Four in Division I this past winter. She was named VBCA Division II Coach of the Year in both 2023 and 2025.
VBCA Executive Director Eric Berry made the following statement in welcoming Roy into her new role.
“Sarah Roy embodies everything the VBCA stands for. Her passion for developing student-athletes, her success as a coach and her commitment to growing the game make her an outstanding choice to lead our organization. We are excited to work alongside Sarah as we continue our mission of making basketball better in Vermont,”
Roy also made a lasting impact on Vermont basketball through her leadership as founder and coach of Kingdom Storm AAU Basketball for the last two decades. She is also the director of the Legacy Basketball Camp. Former North Country basketball great Sue (Micknak) Rivard has been on Randy Lumsden’s coaching staff throughout the Hazen Union varsity girls Division III State Championship runs the last three years. She held the career scoring record (1,316 points) at North Country for over 30 years before it was broken by Sabine Brueck in 2025. Rivard also gives a ton of her time coaching local youth basketball (Hardwick Mustangs AAU) and endorses the VBCA’s choice to make Roy its new president.
“Sarah is an outstanding fit for the position. She is passionate, highly knowledgeable and brings strong leadership skills. She is organized, communicates effectively and has the ability to inspire and work well with others. I’m excited to see her in that role!” said Rivard.
The VBCA serves coaches throughout the state and is dedicated to promoting the growth and development of basketball while providing educational opportunities, recognition programs and leadership for coaches and student-athletes.
