PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – St. Johnsbury Academy’s (SJA) Sydney Schoenbeck shattered program and Vermont state records in the Girls Heptathlon late last month at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals.
Schoenbeck’s 4,783 points secured a sixth-place finish against a national field over two days of competition across seven events. Her closing time of 2:20:39 in the 800m cemented All-American status for the recent graduate. Schoenbeck’s stellar senior campaign for the Hilltoppers consisted of 29 individual titles for the SJA track and field program, including a Division I State Championship in the 300m hurdles.
Former Hazen Union standout Manny Fliegelman teamed with Joel Thornton-Sherman, Bryan Stocker and Isaac Lenzini at Nationals to post the 33rd best time in the country in the 4XMile relay for SJA.
Last month, Hilltopper junior Micah McDonald also posted a podium finish (sixth place) in the javelin at the 79th New England High School Outdoor Track and Field Championships in South Berwick, Me.
