BURLINGTON – Three members of the Hazen Union indoor track and field team qualified for the Vermont Track and Field Indoor State Championships and will compete this Saturday at the Gardner-Collins Indoor Track facility at the University of Vermont.
Senior Cassandra Royer along with freshmen Manny Fliegelman and Daniel Pougnier all qualified and will all compete in the 3000m event. Head Coach Emily Willems will be focusing her team on the 3000m, but Royer and Fliegelman also qualified for the 1500m and the 1000m this past season. Royer also has hopes of qualifying for New Englands later this winter with a top six finish. Royer qualified and competed in New Englands as a sophomore for the Wildcats and returned to compete this season after a year in Germany as an exchange student.

Vikings Down Raiders
STOWE – The Lyndon Institute (LI) boys’ hockey team outlasted Stowe last week to improve to 6-2-1 on the season.
Adam Dusek scored a hat trick to power the Vikings to a 3-2 road win over Stowe last Wednesday. Hazen Union’s Andrew Menard recorded an assist in the win before leaving the ice with an injury. The Vikings hope their senior defensive captain recovers quickly as they battle to hold off Milton for the third spot in the current Division II standings. Hartford holds on to the top spot in the division at 8-1-2, followed by 7-1 Colchester. L.I. is scheduled to host Woodstock on Wednesday night and will travel to Brattleboro on Saturday.
Charger Bowlers Battle in Randolph
RANDOLPH – Despite a fourth-place finish, the Craftsbury Academy (CA) bowling team took St. Johnsbury and White River Valley to the wire over the weekend at the Valley Bowl in Randolph.
The Chargers earned a third seed in the preliminary rounds and lost a pair of three-game marathons against the Hilltoppers and Wildcats in Bakers. Jacob Marquis bowled the high game of the day for CA with a 210, followed by Matt Wilcox (166), Jason Brown (163) and Cosmos Gletos (111).
“We had a good showing in general. Showing a 191 in Bakers is no easy feat, stringing together marks as a team to come out with almost a 200 game is amazing! This team is really showing up for each other,” said head coach Ashley Gravel.
The Chargers will have a satellite makeup match at Rutland on Thursday and will travel to Colchester on Saturday.
