MARSHFIELD – Senior Alice McLane hit career highs last week to power her Twinfield-Cabot girls’ basketball team to a sweep of BFA-Fairfax and Danville, as they improved to 11-5 on the season.
McLane punished BFA-Fairfax inside with a career-high 25 points last Tuesday in a dominant 62-28 home win.
Jorja Washburn was solid once again for Twinfield-Cabot with 13 points of her own and Kendall Fowler chipped in with 10 in the win.
Hannah Miller and Adi See led the Lady Bullets with six points apiece as they fell to 2-14 on the year.
“Alice works so hard, so it doesn’t surprise me to see games like this start to show up in the stat sheet. As a team we’ve been working on scoring in the paint and that starts with Alice. She gets a lot of attention because of her size, but she never gets frustrated even when she’s constantly fouled. Alice is the first person to help up a teammate or opponent and the way she carries herself on and off the court needs to be appreciated. I’m so glad we’ve been able to have this kind of success in her senior year and I’m so proud of her,” said head coach Jack Whalen.
McLane took her game on the road on Thursday night and bludgeoned Danville for 17 more points inside to lead the Lady Trojans to a 45-26 win.
Washburn complimented with nine more points and Fowler knocked down a three on her way to an eight-point night.
Lauren Joncas led Danville with 11, including a trio of triples, as the home team took a 9-6 lead into the second period.
Twinfield-Cabot ended the half on a 15-2 run and came out of the break with a 12-6 run to put the game away.
Lynsey Lavely added nine points in the loss for the Lady Bears. The win locked up the first winning season for the Lady Trojan program in over a decade. Whalen has liked what he’s seen from his squad in his first year on the sidelines, but knows that there is a lot of work to be done going forward to return a program that has won six state titles and made nearly two dozen trips to the Final Four, back to consistent success.
“I am very proud of where we are at this point in the season. The girl’s confidence is high and we are getting better and more comfortable as a team with every game. We have two very tough opponents this week, but we are a better team than we were earlier in the season, and we know what we need to do to succeed in those matchups. We just need to go out there and give them our all!” said Whalen.
The Lady Trojans have won three straight and will get battle tested for the upcoming postseason this week as they welcomed a 12-2 Williamstown team to town on Tuesday before traveling to a Richford team on Thursday that is currently ranked third in Division III.
