Trojans Still Eye Home Playoff Game

MARSHFIELD – The Twinfield-Cabot boys’ basketball team continued to gut through injuries last week in splitting games with Proctor and Stowe, putting their record at 7-10 on the season.

Carter Crossman scored 10 of his 15 points in the final period to help Proctor stave off a comeback minded Trojan team on the road last Monday 60-50.

Chase Razanouski scored eight of his 14 points in the first quarter to help the Phantoms take a commanding 36-23 lead into halftime.

Proctor extended the lead to 18 points, but the shorthanded Trojans showed no quit. Despite being without leading scorer Tej Stewart, Dominic Hale, and Eli Russell, Twinfield-Cabot made it a one possession game late in the fourth quarter with three straight triples from Sam McLane. Crossman and the Phantoms converted from the line down the stretch to escape with the win, improving to 11-7.

Brayden Cushing led Twinfield-Cabot with 13 points and Meles Gouge added 12 in the loss.

McLane’s hot hand carried over to Friday night with a game-high 18 points as the Trojans downed Stowe on the road 52-32. The sophomore added seven rebounds and six assists and Hale returned to the lineup to clean up on the glass and provide some much-needed rim protection.

Ben Sherman and Keenan McLarney combined for 18 points for the Raiders, who fell to 4-12 on the season.

“We had a good week of practice leading into the Stowe match-up and the guys earned a good win on the road. Sam played lights out and he’s a great kid who has been working extremely hard in practice every single night. Dom consistently does all the things that don’t show up in the stat sheet and he is pure heart and hustle. Sam Russell, Meles, and Brayden all put together a great all-around game for us. Stowe is a very big and athletic team, but we did a good job of controlling the pace against their size creating good shots. We’re very happy with our progress as we near the end of the regular season,” said head coach Kris Bador.

Bador’s upstart squad remains in the tenth spot in the current Division IV standings behind Blue Mountain and Poultney but have one more week to make up ground for that coveted No. 8 spot to earn a home playoff game.

The Trojans looked to make up ground on Monday with a home date against Christ Covenant and will host BFA-Fairfax on Senior Night Thursday. They wrap up the regular season on the road against Craftsbury Academy on Friday night.
