Richford broke open a tight game with 10 runs in the sixth inning to beat CCSU on the road on Saturday 19-3. Down six after four innings, the Lady Trojans threatened in the top half of the fifth, putting their first four batters on base against starting pitcher Sierra Derby. They would only score one run as Kyrielle Deuso came on in relief to strike out the final two hitters. Sophia Mancini had a hit for the Lady Trojans. Hale, Keyes, and Selena Lamery each scored a run. Derby struck out six, earning the win with Deuso fanning five in relief. Maddie Smith had a double and a triple to lead the Lady Rocket offense.

Richford improved to 8-3 to keep pace atop the Division IV standings.

“Summer Haverick and I really want to see an improvement in consistent batting and being aggressive with smart base-running. Our girls are reliably making the plays on defense and are strong at communicating with each other, which we love. We’re leaving too many people stranded on base however, and have had a hard time earning back runs with potential big innings. We’ll continue to put in the hours in batting practice to get more consistent offensively,” said co-head coach Christin Martin.

CCSU hosted Winooski on Tuesday and is scheduled to play Craftsbury Academy at Danville next Thursday.
