Cancer Survivors Guests of Honor at Cancer Walk

MORRISVILLE – The annual LACiNg Up for Cancer walk is scheduled for Saturday, June 22, at the Peoples Academy track, and kicks off at 1:00 p.m., with an opening ceremony followed by hours of laps and activities throughout the day.

The walk continues to be LACiNg’s signature fundraiser, pulling in more than $170,000 each year. In addition to corporate sponsorships, teams of walkers raise money through sponsorships, wrap-around events and sale of luminary bags. Last year’s walk raised over $172,000 bringing the total monies raised since the first walk in 2003 to more than $3,000,000. “This year’s goal is $160,000 which I expect we will exceed,” continued Demars.

The money raised enables LACiNg Up for Cancer to provide grants of support to area cancer patients who are undergoing treatment.

Throughout the day there will be food and sweets for all. The day takes a turn when the luminary bags with candles, white bags decorated in honor or memory of those touched by cancer, are placed around the track and lit at dusk. The soft glow of the bags sets the tone for the hour-long luminaria ceremony. The evening concludes with a reflections video followed by fireworks.
