DANVILLE – The Twinfield-Cabot-Danville (CCSU) girls’ soccer team rebounded from a season opening loss to BFA-Fairfax in a big way last week, racing past Mountain League rival Blue Mountain to even their record at 1-1.
Ava Ardovino scored four goals and assisted on another to lead Division III powerhouse BFA-Fairfax to a dominant 11-0 road win over Caledonia United last Tuesday. Reigning Mountain League Player of the Year Paige Cargill added a hat-trick and an assist for a Lady Bullet team that looks poised to build off a 13-win season last fall. Emma Spiller added to the scoring barrage with a pair of goals and Maraianna Merritt chipped in with four assists on the day. Mikayla Tobey made two saves to preserve the shutout as BFA improved to 2-0.
Ida Astick made 14 stops for CCSU in the loss. Head coach Spencer Morse and his squad are transitioning defensively without standout goalkeeper Leah Klark, who was instrumental in their historic playoff run last fall.
“It was a tough game against a very good team. Leah decided not to play this year, but I am super proud of Ida for working really hard with our goalie coach to get up to speed and take the reins,” said Morse.
Carley Mancini scored a pair of second-half goals to lead Caledonia United to their first victory of the season with a 4-1 home win over Blue Mountain on Friday. Hazel Abetti buried a feed from Eliska Siebenbrunner to make it 1-0 CCSU 20 minutes into the match.
Kennedy Perrigo evened it at 1-1 with a free kick for the Lady Bucks nine minutes later to end the first half scoring.
Mancini changed the match, scoring a pair of goals 60 seconds apart early in the second half to put the home team on the front foot. Vermont All-State midfielder Sloane Morse added insurance in the sixty-third minute and Astick made seven solid saves to make it stand.
Ava Kingsbury made 11 stops for Blue Mountain, who fell to 0-2 on the season.
“We did a good job of creating chances in the first half that Kingsbury turned away from point blank range. Our forwards were doing a fantastic job of being aggressive on their runs and Sloane was doing a great job of finding them behind the defense. Carley, Hazel and Eliska had very strong games up front and our sweeper Cora Abetti used her speed to help keep BMU from mounting many attacks. Taylor Carson had an impressive game as well at full back, using great decision making on when to step up,” said Morse.
Caledonia United will look to keep their momentum going on Wednesday when they travel to Richford for a Mountain League match-up.
