Defective Equipment, Missing Person
On September 5, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Michael Riethe, of Greensboro, was driving south on Rte. 16 in his 2016 Honda CRV and near Pumpkin Lane when he crossed the northbound lane and went into the ditch. There were no injuries and there was extensive damage to the vehicle. He was issued traffic tickets for defective equipment, no vehicle registration and no liability insurance.
On September 6, Jill Barron reported her son Joseph Barron, of Wolcott, a missing person. It was reported that Joseph drove to Hardwick the night prior and got lost on a back road in his silver Nissan Altima. Hardwick Police and Fire Department began searching the area. Joseph Barron and his vehicle were located on the VAST trail on Buffalo Mountain by Hardwick Fire Department. Barron was uninjured. His vehicle had to be towed out with a skid steer.
On Sunday, September 8, at approximately 11 a.m., an anonymous caller reported Shyanne MacNeaL walking south on Rte. 14 S. in Hardwick. MacNeal had two arrest warrants out of Lamoille County for four counts of unlawful trespass and retail theft. Hardwick Police met with MacNeal in the parking lot of Dollar General. She was taken into custody without incident. MacNeal was transported to Northeast Correctional Complex in St. Johnsbury.
Eric Duprey, of E. Montpelier, was parked in the municipal parking lot on Wolcott St. and when he returned to his car, a 2023 Toyota Venza, the passenger door had been damaged. There was a note left on his car by someone who witnessed the accident. The car, a 2019 Mini Countryman, that was parked beside him was the one that hit his car. There was damage to the front bumper of that car. The owner and operator, David O’Conner, of Cambridge, Mass., returned to his vehicle and information was exchanged.
