Saturation Patrol, Motor Vehicle Crash
On September 6, at approximately 5:43 p.m., the Vermont State Police (VSP) responded to the area of Hollow Ave., in Waterbury for a report of a potentially intoxicated female that had been in operation of a motor vehicle. Subsequent investigation revealed Rebecca Ternberg, of Wolcott, showed signs of impairment. Ternberg was taken into custody for suspicion of DUI. She was issued a citation to appear in Vt. Superior Court, Washington County for the offense of DUI.
On Friday, September 6, between the hours of 5:15 p.m. and 7:15 p.m., troopers from the Berlin State Police Barracks conducted a saturation patrol on I-89 in Washington County. Areas of focus included the stretch of interstate from Berlin to Montpelier. The purpose of the patrol was to detect and identify aggressive drivers, enforce motor vehicle laws and promote safe driving.
Details: Troopers involved: 2, Number of traffic stops: 14, Number of traffic tickets issued: 12, Number of written warnings issued: 3. Highlights: Twelve operators were ticketed for traveling in excess of 85 MPH, six of which were 90 MPH or more.
The VSP would like to remind all motorists to drive responsibly, utilize a sober driver, leave a safe distance between vehicles, plan ahead, put their phones down and keep their heads up while driving.
On September 7, at approximately 5:34 a.m., Troopers from the VSP – Royalton Barracks were dispatched to a reported single motor vehicle crash near I-89 mile marker 26.2 northbound, in the town of Bethel, in the county of Windsor. EMS and troopers responded to the scene and located a 2004 Toyota Tundra which sustained severe damage from a tree in the median.
Preliminary investigation determined that the operator was Lindsay Holt, of Plainfield. Holt succumbed to the injuries sustained from the crash. The passenger, Justin L. Jeror, of Enfield, N.H., advised Holt was traveling northbound on I-89, went off the roadway, and struck a tree.
I-89 northbound was down to one lane in the area of the crash.
Troopers were assisted on scene by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, White River Valley Ambulance, and East Randolph Fire Department.
On September 7, at approximately 3:24 p.m., VSP dispatch received multiple reports regarding a vehicle that was operating erratically, while driving south on Interstate 91. The vehicle was located and a motor vehicle stop was made by a VSP Trooper, on I-91 Access Road in the town of Westminster. The operator, Iber Calvo-Lopez, of Plainfield, showed signs of impairment. Calvo-Lopez was run through the Standard Field Sobriety Tests and was subsequently arrested for suspicion of DUI. He was transported to the Westminster Barracks for processing and released on a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court – Windham Criminal Division on October 1, at 8:30 a.m.
