EAST HARDWICK – VTrans expected contractors to begin Lamoille Valley Rail Trail (LVRT) work Monday, Sept. 30, on a culvert at milepost (MP) 31 in East Hardwick. The trail will be closed from Brickhouse Road (MP 30.65) to Pumpkin Road (MP 32.02) while repair work is underway. Repairs are expected to take one to two weeks, depending on weather.
During this time the signed detour for the MP 25.26 closure will also be closed. The work at MP 25.26 is expected to be completed by mid-October. If the work at MP 31 is complete first, the detour will be reactivated.
The trail will remain closed from Belfry Road (MP 25) to Stannard Mountain Road (MP 26.9) until work is completed at MP 25.26.
The Vermont Rail Trails Program is conducting a survey of trail users. The survey takes about 10 minutes to complete. Results will help the state plan for a better experience, from improved amenities like parking along the trail to better connections with trail towns. The survey will be closed at 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 30. To take the survey, go to railtrails.vermont.gov/trail-updates/
The LVRT is partly closed due to damage from the July 2023 and July 2024 flood events. Segments closed to all trail users are noted in red on the LVRT map at railtrails.vermont.gov/trails/lamoille–valley–rail–trail. There are rough sections of trail along the open segments in some areas due to recent flooding; those are noted in yellow on the LVRT map. Contractors are completing repairs along the yellow segments but will work to maintain
