Hazen Golf Recap
WATERBURY CENTER – The Hazen Union golf team wrapped up their regular season last week with a trip to the magical rolling layout of the Country Club of Vermont before hosting their third match of the season at Mountain View Country Club in Greensboro.
On Monday in Waterbury, senior Brendan Moodie continued his strong play, earning top team honors for the Wildcats, while finishing two strokes behind medalist Pyke Nelson of Harwood. Hazen freshman Will Halprin shot a respectable 56 in what was his first time seeing the challenging course. Senior Gavin Stratton came in with a 62. Harwood hosted the match and took top team honors; nine shots clear of second place Stowe.
“The front nine has a unique layout with almost no trees but lots of very deep grass. The elevated tees give the players a great view of what is in front of them. After a tough five over start to his round in the first two holes, Brendan did a nice job of fighting back to post a good score,” said head coach Andy Hunt.
North Country’s Hudson Lantagne and Stowe’s Max Biederman shared medalist honors on Wednesday in Greensboro with five over rounds of 40. Moodie led the Wildcats with a 42, Halprin came in with another solid 49, ahead ofBraydon Stratton (55) and Gavin Stratton (59), rounding out the scores on the day for Hazen.
“Stowe head coach Chris Eaton and Mountain View clubhouse manager ran the show in our regular season finale. Many thanks to them, they did a great job! The weather was tough with strong cool winds, which pushed up the scores on the day,” said Hunt.
Hazen made the long trip to Neshobe CC in Brandon on Tuesday for the High School Boys’ State Qualifiers.
