On September 25, at approximately 8:21 p.m., the Vermont State Police received a report of a family disturbance that had occurred at a residence in the town of Plainfield. Investigation revealed that John Downing, of Plainfield, had assaulted a household member. Downing was arrested and transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing. Per order of the courts, Downing was issued a citation to appear in Washington County Superior Court – Criminal Division on September 30 at 12:30 p.m.
On September 27, at approximately 9 p.m., Valerie Morrison of Craftsbury contacted the Vermont State Police to report Richard Morrison, of Craftsbury, as missing. Morrison was last seen in late afternoon on Wednesday, Sept. 25 at his residence. Morrison is believed to have left his residence between the late evening on September 25 and 5 p.m. on September 26. Initial efforts to locate Morrison have been unsuccessful. Morrison is believed to be on foot, wearing boots, gray pants and an unknown shirt type. Anyone who may have seen Morrison or knows his whereabouts is asked to contact the Vermont State Police Derby barracks at (802) 334-8881.
Update: According to the Chronicle, with assistance from the public, Richard Morrison was located safely the morning of September 27.
