FAIRFAX – After a tough trip to undefeated BFA-Fairfax to start the week, the Twinfield-Cabot-Danville (CCSU) girls’ soccer team dominated a stingy Oxbow team on the road to improve to 6-5-1 on the season.
Reining Mountain League Player of the Year Paige Cargill netted a hat trick and added a pair of assists to power BFA-Fairfax to a 5-0 home win over CCSU last Wednesday. Ava Ardovino notched her 100th career goal and tallied an assist as the Lady Bullets rolled to their twelfth straight win. Emma Spiller also found the back of the net for the home team and Mikayla Tobey turned away 10 shots to earn her eighth shutout of the season. Ida Astick recorded 14 saves in the loss, in what was a much closer match than the 11-0 result BFA-Fairfax handed Cal United to start the season.
“We wish we could have the first five minutes of this game back, giving them an early 3-0 lead. That said, we had a good effort this match and had some quality opportunities to score. BFA is an extremely strong team. Hopefully we get another crack at them in the playoffs,” said head coach Spencer Morse.
Eliska Siebenbrunner scored a pair of goals to help CCSU avenge an earlier season loss in dominating fashion, racing past the Lady Olympians on the road last Friday 4-1. Cal United blitzed Oxbow from the opening touch, with Hazel Abetti, Sloane Morse, and Siebenbrunner all finding the back of the net in an eight-minute stretch early in the first half.
River Gardner stopped the bleeding for Oxbow with two minutes left in the first half to make it 3-1 heading into the break. Hazel Abetti added a pair of assists to her stellar day and Cora Abetti and Jaidyn Carson chipped in with assists of their own in the win. Astick was solid in net for CCSU, making 13 stops on the day. Caleigh Bean recorded six stops for Oxbow as they fell to 4-7-1.
“Our offense was working hard tonight and really had a breakout game. Eliska got a pair of goals due to some great runs on the wide wing and some excellent diagonal crosses to her. Hazel had a great crash on Cora’s corner kick and Sloan’s goal was the result of a beautiful volley out of the air from Hazel’s chip cross. It’s a good sign for us as we move into our final week of the regular season,” said Morse.
Morse’s club is hanging on to eighth seed in the current Division III standings and the hope of hosting a home playoff match. They traveled to Enosburg on Tuesday and will wrap up the regular season at home against Richford on Friday.
