WOODBURY – On November 14, at 11:43 a.m., Woodbury Volunteer Fire Department (WVFD) Assistant Chief Neill discovered a one-car rollover in the area of 588 Route 14 while driving his town dump truck for his day job. Neill called the crash in. WVFD and FAST Squad and Hardwick Emergency Rescue Squad were dispatched.
When Neill approached the vehicle he discovered the lone occupant entrapped upside down in the car. The occupant was unconscious and in critical condition. The rescue jacks were used to stabilize the car and the jaws of life to remove the doors to provide access to the patient and quickly remove them from the car for medical treatment.
A paramedic was called from Barre Town EMS as well as the DHART air transport helicopter. The patient was transported by ambulance to the East Calais ballfield to meet the helicopter.
The patient was out of the car and receiving advanced medical treatment within 24 minutes. WVFD and FAST Squad, Hardwick Emergency Rescue Squad, Hardwick Fire Department, Barre Town EMS, East Montpelier Fire Department, Montpelier Police Department (Capitol Dispatch) and the Vermont State Police were involved with the rescue.
