Motor Vehicle Crash

On December 9, at approximately 2:14 a.m., the Hardwick Police Department responded to 35 S. Main St. for a car versus building motor vehicle crash. At the time of the initial report the offending vehicle and operator had fled the scene. The facade of the building at number 35 had sustained significant damage and there were indications on scene that this was the result of a motor vehicle driving into the building.

The operator of the car called dispatch and advised he had hit the building and was returning to the scene. A Hardwick officer met with and spoke to the driver, Taylor J. Dailey of Hardwick. Dailey was showing indicators of intoxication and admitted he had consumed alcohol prior to the crash. After a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Exercises, he was taken into custody without incident and processed for DUI. He was issued a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court Caledonia Division, December 30.
