EAST MONTPELIER – Before a packed home rink on the annual Pink the Rink night, the U32 girls played a game against rival Spaulding before giving up a late goal in a 4-3 loss, January 4.
One moment that stood out was when all the cancer survivors were asked to go on the ice for the ceremonial puck drop. Congratulations to not only the four teams in their pink jerseys but to all the volunteers who raised money with food sales and Chuck a Puck.
The 5-1 U32 boys hockey team followed up with a 10-1 win over a Colchester team that was in last year’s finals.
Seniors Colton Warren, Maddox Heise and defenseman Max Scribner led the way, putting up a total of eight goals and eight assists. These are the three-musketeers of Vermont hockey using sticks instead of swords to pace the win. Freshmen Charlie Pickel tied the single-game points-mark for a freshman with a goal and four assists while classmates Camden Leno had three assists, Jack Scribner, a goal and an assist, and Gage Heise with his first varsity assist led the first-year players. After the game the Colchester coach remarked “when they play like that U32 can beat any team in the state including Division I teams.”
Next up for the first-place Raiders is a long, cold drive to Brattleboro on Wednesday followed by a home contest with visiting Division I Burlington on Saturday, 2:30 p.m.
