RANDOLPH – The young Craftsbury Academy (CA) bowling program showed marked improvements last week as they traveled to the Valley Bowl in Randolph.
Assistant coach Will Patnoe filled in for head coach Ashley Gravel, leading the Chargers to a road match at the Valley Bowl on Saturday afternoon. Raz Mille led the way with a career-high 128 on the day. Parker Holcombe complimented with a personal best 122.
“Will did a great job with the team and he saw overall improvements in all of our bowlers throughout the day. We welcomed Cyrus Graham back to the program which was great to see. He had been a promising young bowler for us in the past and will give us some more experience and depth to a very young team,” said Gravel.
The Chargers will be back on the road next Saturday for a match at Sparetime in Colchester.
Raiders Fall to Thunderbirds
STOWE – Hazen Union’s Max Fortmann and his Stowe boys hockey team fell to Missisquoi Valley (MVU) at home in a shootout over the weekend.
Luke Bruzzi scored twice, and Colby Young tallied two assists to lead MVU to a 6-3 win over the Raiders on Saturday. Wyett Bellrose, Ean Messier, Beau Reynolds, and Maddux Gagne also lit the lamp for the Thunderbirds as they improved to 5-4 on the season. Max King scored two goals and added an assist for Stowe and Danel Donza added two assists in the loss. This is Fortmann’s first season with the Raiders after skating with the Lyndon Institute Vikings the last two seasons.
Stowe will look to stop a nine-game losing streak this week as they host Woodstock on Wednesday and Brattleboro on Saturday.
Lady Wolves Win Third Straight Under Welcome
MORRISVILLE – First-year head coach and Hazen Union alum Rick Welcome guided his upstart Peoples Academy (PA) girls varsity basketball team to a home win against Stowe on Monday for their third straight win.
The Lady Wolves added recent victories over Twinfield-Cabot and Thetford Academy to improve to 5-2 on the season. Welcome is rebuilding a program at PA that won one game last season and did not compete in the division III tournament. He has four eighth graders on the roster this winter, led by the ultra-talented Daisy Berg.
Welcome and his club will be back in action this week as they host Lyndon Institute on Thursday.
