HARDWICK – Hazen Union junior Quinn Molleur has earned a spot in the 2025 New England Music Festival Association (NEMFA) Concert Festival, to be held March 13 to 15 in Middletown, Conn.
The journey began with Molleur’s December audition, where they performed “Nina”, an Italian piece by Pergolesi.
“‘Nina’ is the most challenging song I’ve ever had to perform,” Molleur shared. “There were many different vocal challenges that took weeks to perfect, from intricate dynamics to complex vocal jumps.”
In preparation for the festival, Molleur is learning five diverse pieces: “The River,” “Bridge Over Troubled Waters,” “In Remembrance,” “Children Go Where I Send Thee” and “Laudate Pueri,” a Latin composition.
“I’m looking forward to singing in a large ensemble with other people from across the Northeastern states and having an opportunity to further my skills as a musician,” Molleur said.
Molleur has been an active member of Hazen’s music program, singing in the concert chorus for three years, the select chorus for two years, and playing alto saxophone in the band for two years.
Beyond music, Molleur is immersed in the creative arts, pursuing drama, painting, weaving, sewing, crocheting and writing.
The festival will culminate in a public performance on Saturday, March 15, 2 p.m., at Middletown High School. Under the direction of Dr. Janet Galván, recently retired director of choral activities at Ithaca College, Molleur will join talented young musicians from across New England for the concert. Tickets and additional information are at nemfa.org.
