GREENSBORO BEND – In November, residents of Greensboro Bend met to discuss the future of the shuttered Methodist Church on Main Street. Bend Revitalization Initiative (BRI) hosted this conversation with the intent of seeking input from community members on their hopes for the historic church and greater village.
BRI is in the process of acquiring the old church building and parsonage, and, with support from the Village Trust Initiative, will renovate and operate the old church as a community amenity moving forward. BRI will use community input to inform what the building will become. Several ideas prevailed by the end of the November event including reusing the building as some type of community hub, a potential coffee shop or some sort of retail.
BRI is now turning to all of Greensboro and its neighbors for input. BRI opened a survey the last week of January that reflects what was heard in November and leaves room for further input. Hard copies of this survey can be found at Smith’s in the Bend until March 8. Digital versions can be accessed through the link on BRl’s website, thebendvt.org/ next week. There is still time to fill out the survey.
This June, SRI will host an open house event where results of the survey will be displayed and with the intended path forward for the building. Look for more information about this event on the “Around the Bend” Facebook page, the BRI website and flyers around town.
