NORTHEAST KINGDOM – Hazen Union alum Mike Clark and St. Johnsbury Academy’s late legendary coach Chip Langmaid are among a distinguished list of inductees who will go into the Vermont Principal’s Association’s (VPA) Hall of Fame later this coming spring.
Walden’s Mike Clark will be inducted for his 40 plus years of service as a decorated official in multiple Vermont high school sports. He’s officiated 10 soccer state championship matches, 27 Final Fours, and four Twin State Lions Cup matches over a distinguished career that started in 1976. He also umpired eight state championship games in softball, as well as 16 Final Four games over the course of his career. Clark graduated from Hazen in 1972, earned his physical education degree from the University of Vermont, and taught at Twinfield. He is the current Hardwick Academy-Hazen Union Alumni Association President.
Arlan “Chip” Langmaid will be honored by the VPA in May for what truly embodies a hall of fame coaching career. Langmaid was at the helm for 29 Division I state titles at St. Johnsbury Academy throughout his legendary career. He led the Hilltopper boys outdoor track and field program to 13 state championships, five consecutive girls indoor and outdoor state titles, as well as three consecutive championships in cross-country. Langmaid’s boys track and field team captured their fourth consecutive state championship just days before his tragic passing in June of 2024.
