Embezzled Funds, Accidents

On February 19, representatives from Northeast Kingdom Arts Council (NEKarts) and the Hardwick Downtown Partnership (HDP), filed complaints with the Hardwick Police Department regarding a bookkeeper, identified as Laurel Schoop, of Wolcott, having embezzled funds from the above listed non-profit organizations.

The amount owed to these two organizations by Schoop totals $8,866.19. Schoop used her check signing authority with NEKarts and HDP to write a total of 65 checks to herself over a four month period, from October 2024 to January 2025. Schoop has been issued a citation to appear in Caledonia Superior Court to be arraigned on these charges, March 23.
