Back-to-Back Incidents on March 9
HARDWICK — Hardwick Fire Department (HFD) had back-to-back calls the afternoon of March 9. There was a motor vehicle accident at 3:13 p.m. on Center Road in Hardwick with nine members responding, and Engine 2. All units were clear and returning to the station at 4:37 p.m., when the second call came in for a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm on Maple Street in Hardwick. Engine 1 and Engine 2 responded with six members returning at 5:15 p.m.

This individual’s CO detector alarmed at the end of its life. Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless and tasteless. The department recommends calling 911 and evacuating. The department urges area residents to be vigilant in their alarm maintenance, as “Hardwick Fire would much rather come investigate than find you dead.”
As of March 9, the Hardwick Fire Department hit 25 calls so far in 2025. The break-down by type of call includes Structure Fire: 1, Chimney Fire: 1, Vehicle Fire: 2, Accident: 7, Alarm: 3, Medical Assist: 4, HPD assist: 1, CO calls: 4, Other: 2.
