GREENSBORO — This March, the Greensboro United Church of Christ (GUCC) has been flying a new banner, “Have Mercy.”

GUCC pastor Rev. Dr. Sunday-Winters said of the new banner, “Mercy is at the core of Christ’s teaching. To be anti-merciful is to be anti-Christ.”

The banner is reflective of the message delivered by the Right Reverand Mariann Budde, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, D.C. At the January 21 interfaith prayer service at the Washington National Cathedral, Bishop Budde called for compassion and mercy toward marginalized groups, specifically LGBTQ+ communities, immigrants and refugees escaping from turmoil in their countries.
