Violation of abuse Prevention Order, St. Johnsbury Barracks Saturation Patrol

On April 18, at approximately 12:03 p.m., Troopers from the Berlin Barracks responded to a report of an incident that occurred during a vehicle repossession in Cabot. The investigation determined that Stephen Strait, of Cabot, discharged multiple rounds from a firearm in close proximity to another individual and near a residence. No one was injured due to the incident. Further investigation revealed that Strait was in violation of an active abuse prevention order. He was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Berlin Barracks for processing. Strait was released with a citation to appear in Vermont Superior Court, Washington County Criminal Division, on April 21 at 12:30 p.m. to answer to the charges of Violation of Abuse Prevention Order, Aggravated Disorderly Conduct and Recklessly Endangering Another Person.

On April 15, Troopers from the St. Johnsbury State Police Barracks conducted a saturation patrol on Interstate 91 in Caledonia County. The patrol focused on the section of the interstate between St. Johnsbury and Lyndon. The objective was to identify and deter aggressive driving behaviors and to promote roadway safety.

Details: Number of traffic stops: 37, Number of tickets issued: 22, Number of warnings issued: 36.

Highlights: Two operators were issued tickets for traveling at speeds exceeding 90 mph. Two operators were issued tickets for operating without a driver’s license. One operator was issued a ticket for operating with a suspended driver’s license. Multiple operators received tickets for operating vehicles with expired registrations and/or expired inspection stickers. One vehicle was towed after it was determined that the license plates were not assigned to the vehicle.

The Vermont State Police reminds all motorists to drive responsibly: always designate a sober driver, maintain a safe following distance and refrain from using handheld electronic devices while operating a vehicle.


Unlawful Trespass and Mischief


CRAFTSBURY — On April 18 at approximately 9:06 p.m., the Vermont State Police were notified about a person unlawfully trespassing at a residence located on Lake Road in the Town of Craftsbury. Upon arrival, State Police identified the subject as Jacob Emerick, of Craftsbury. Further investigation determined Emerick had forcefully entered the residence without permission after previously being served an eviction notice. Emerick was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Derby Barracks for further processing. Emerick was later transported to Northern State Correctional Facility and lodged for Unlawful Trespass (F) and Unlawful Mischief.
