GREENSBORO, CRAFTSBURY − The Craftsbury Outdoor Center and Headwaters Community Trust present a speaker series exploring the intersection of housing, conservation and forests in Vermont. Three events explore the topic and the role that forests can play in helping to find solutions.
Housing and Conservation: Finding Balance and Solutions will begin the series on August 7, 7 to 8:30 p.m., at Highland Center for the Arts. Gus Seelig, Vermont Housing and Conservation Board executive director and Tracy Zschau, Vermont Land Trust president and CEO ,will explore approaches to balance Vermont’s needs amid ever-changing economic and ecological conditions.
Second in the series, Beyond the Illusion of Preservation: Balancing Forest Values, will be presented
October 16, 7 p.m., at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. A team of New England-based forest researchers developed a report, “Beyond the Illusion of Preservation,” exploring how the region’s forests can be managed to meet a full range of societal values and needs. Author Dr. Caitlin Littlefield will explain the report’s findings, recommendations and the role forests can play in addressing many of our most pressing challenges.
Third in the series, Forests to Homes: How Forests can Support Housing Solutions, will be presented
October 29, 7 p.m., at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. Maura Adams from the Northern Forest Center to will describe how innovative wood products and building reuse can be part of housing solutions.
