Gerard S. “Jerry Hall

HARDWICK – Gerard Stanley “Jerry” Hall, 84, a Hardwick resident for more than 50 years, passed away peacefully on January 2, at the Greensboro Nursing Home with family at his side.

He was born July 27, 1939, in Middletown, Conn.; the son of the late Ralph and Marie (Guida) Hall. He graduated from Middletown High School in the class of 1957. Jerry continued his education at the University of Connecticut, majoring in Dairy Manufacturing.

On December 9, 1961, he married Geneva M. Lacoss in Cromwell, Conn.

He enlisted in the US Air Force on January 17, 1962, in New Haven, Conn. He served his country at Chanute AFB in Rantoul, Ill., on the Island of Crete in Greece and at Goodfellow AFB in Texas. He was Honorably Discharged on October 14, 1966. Jerry and his family returned to Connecticut.

He worked for his uncles Anthony and Joseph Guida at the Sunshine Dairy in Middletown, and Guida’s Dairy in New Britton, Conn.

In 1970 Jerry and his family moved to Vermont, first to East Calais, and in 1974 they moved to Hardwick where they have since made their home.

Jerry was a very active and respected member of the community. From 1970 to 1974 he was a dispatcher for the Vermont State Police. He and his wife, Geneva, owned and operated several businesses in Hardwick: including, M & M Market, Corner Store and they later purchased Mill Street Market. The Hall family all came together to run the grocery business and allow Jerry the time that he needed to manage the town clerk’s office. He took great pride in serving the Hardwick community as their elected town clerk and treasurer for more than 25 years. He retired from that position in 2004.

He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 7 in Hardwick. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and was always interested in their activities. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, bowling, and playing with his favorite grand dog, “Charlie.” Wintering in Florida was the highlight in his retirement years.

Survivors include his wife Geneva, of Hardwick; three sons: Lance Hall and wife Jamie, of Greensboro Bend, Michael Hall, and wife Marcia, of Woodbury and Timothy “Tim” Hall and wife Brenda, of Hardwick; a sister, Jacqueline M. Hall of E. Haddam, Conn.; 10 grandchildren: Joey, Cody, Lydia, Lucas, Tabitha, Marisa, Shania, Rachel, Randi Lynn and Nathan; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
