EAST CALAIS — Norwich Cadets first-year midfielder, Caitlyn Fielder, who calls East Calais home, collected 13 points with 10 goals, three assists and won 26 draw controls in the week ending March 17. Her performance earned her Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week accolades from the league office for that week.
Norwich University Athletics reports Fielder’s dominant performance in the week’s 2-1 showing included forcing two turnovers and scooping up five ground balls.
She began the week with three goals, four draw controls and an assist, while causing a turnover in a close loss to Emerson College on Monday. She followed that up by scoring a hat trick in the Cadet’s come-from-behind win at SUNY Plattsburgh on Wednesday, where she won nine draw controls and provided one assist.
Fielder’s week ended with a dominant display against Rivier University in a conference clash on Saturday, where she scored four goals and dished out an assist, won a remarkable 13 draw controls, forced a turnover, and scooped up a ground ball.
Fielder’s uncle, former Hardwick Town Manager Shaun Fielder says Caitlyn’s entire family is really proud of her. They are honored to have her doing so well at Norwich, competing at the collegiate level where he says she’s also doing well academically. Caitlyn Fielder was a standout 3-sport player at U-32 in ice hockey, lacrosse and field hockey.
The GNAC is an NCAA Division III association made up of 16-member institutions and over 4,000 student-athletes across the New England region. Founded in 1995, the GNAC annually sponsors and administers 22 championships, while balancing academic integrity, athletic opportunity and community involvement in an effort to enhance the student-athlete experience.
