SOUTH WOODBURY – I stopped at the Sheep Shop on Route 14 in South Woodbury to see how the recently opened Sheep Shop Café was coming along.

I have been a faithful customer of the Sheep Shop because of their wonderful sheep milk and sugar facial scrubs, especially the lavender scented scrub; I like to take any opportunity to support a small local Vermont business.

Marcial, who along with his wife Marie-Helene and their son Marcialito, run the Sheep Shop and now the Sheep Shop Café at their homestead.

In addition to the sheep wool and milk products, pastries and espresso drinks are served at their indoor tables or, this summer, at outdoor seating near the grazing sheep and two Maremma sheep dogs.

I treated myself to a mid-morning cappuccino and a savory scone with maple butter while chatting with Marie-Helene and Marcial. I was delighted when another Greensboro contingent on their way to Montpelier also stopped in, B.J. and Kyle Gray.

BJ was after a couple skeins of yarn. She and Kyle were pleasantly surprised to find a new favorite stop on Route 14 to get coffee and pastries. Kyle had two espresso shots and a warm raspberry roll while Marcial made a maple latte (with solar flares carved in the foam) for B.J.

What a pleasant way to spend an otherwise gray and rainy weekday morning!

Check out their handcrafted all natural and eco-friendly sheep milk soaps, body care, candles, and home décor goods at sheepshopvt.com.

The Sheep Shop and Café are open daily (except Tuesdays) from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on weekends.
