HARDWICK – Joan Hack Camp, 89, of Hardwick died peacefully on June 19, at The Manor in Morrisville. Her family was at her side.

She was born December 12, 1934, in Rutland, the only child born to the late Walter E. and Esther (Cooper) Hack. She graduated from Rutland High School in the class of 1953. Joan continued her education at the Thompson School of Practical Nursing, graduating in the class of 1955 and The Pierre School of Practical Nursing, graduating in 1958. She then took a six-month course in maternity and pediatrics.

On December 1, 1962, she married Gerald B. Camp in Rutland. They lived all their married life in Hardwick, where Joan became a very active member of the community.

Joan was employed in health care for all her working years. She was a nurse at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Bellows Falls, East Hardwick Nursing Home, Hardwick Hospital and Copley Hospital. She retired in 1999 following more than 32 years of nursing.

She was an active member of the United Church of Hardwick, Circle No. 1, and a member of the choir of that church. She was a charter member of the Hardwick Rescue Squad for more than 18 years and head of the Red Cross blood drawings for more than 25 years. Joan was very proud of her sons and their service to our country. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and following their sports events. She was an avid Red Sox and NASCAR fan. She enjoyed her cat, Elsa, and her many dogs, playing cards, reading, and knitting. Joan taught herself how to use the computer and soon was designing cards for all occasions and laminating. Joan was the go-to person for health care needs. She will be remembered by all who knew her for her kindness to everyone.
