HARDWICK – Some dry and comfortable weather dominated the span of late last week into the weekend. Low temperatures at the peak of the cooler and drier air reached the upper 40s. We were free from any deluge during the forecast period, although a moderate soaking rain occurred during the mid-week. Avoiding very heavy rainfall will hopefully give us some time to absorb any precipitation that arrives today and tomorrow.

We also received a light soaking rain yesterday. This is the result of a warm front lifting north through the region, re-introducing some warmer and humid air. A cold front typically chases this feature to carve out some of that heat and humidity. This will slowly march across northern Vermont tonight into tomorrow, with some scattered showers and thunderstorms. An isolated risk for flash flooding remains due to heavy downpours that may occur within thunderstorms, but those details are too finite to calculate more than several hours away from the event. Keep an eye out for rising water and heed any directions from flash flood warnings.
Following the cold front passage, a large ridge of high pressure clears things out for the weekend. We will be on the northwestern circulation of the high for Friday into Saturday, with some drier air and highs near 80. As the ridge slides eastward on Sunday, the flow turns southerly and the humidity returns along with some increase in the overall temperatures. We may reach 90 by the time we get to Monday. Here are the details of the forecast:
Wednesday: Partly sunny. Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon into the overnight. Some storms may contain heavy downpours. High: 83. Low: 67.
Thursday: Partly sunny. Scattered showers and thunderstorms. Some storms may contain heavy downpours. High: 78. Low: 59.
Friday: Mostly sunny. High: 81. Low: 63.
Saturday: Mostly sunny. High: 84. Low: 64.
Sunday: Mostly sunny. More humid. Heat index values approaching 95. High: 88. Low: 67.
