Pulskamp Dedicated to the Land

To the editor:

My name is Jaiel (J-ī-ell) Pulskamp (Pulse-camp). I am a mother, farmer, and advocate for agricultural and environmental issues. I am excited to announce my candidacy for the Lamoille-Washington District’s House seat. My journey as a small-scale vegetable farmer began in Montpelier in 2008 and continued in Worcester in 2012. This reflects my dedication to the land, climate justice, and community. My work with organizations like Rural Vermont, 350Vermont, and the White River Natural Resources Conservation District, where I help promote resource concerns and help farmers access funds, demonstrates this commitment. I also served on the Washington Central Unified Union School District board and the Worcester Planning Commission and currently serve on the Vermont Climate Council.

Vermont’s rural identity makes our state unique. I envision a Vermont where our agricultural roots are celebrated and our environment is protected for future generations. I believe in a resilient and sustainable agricultural economy that provides access to non-toxic, nutritious food for all Vermonters, alongside affordable housing and healthcare. This is a vision of a Vermont that is sustainable and inclusive, where everyone has a place and a voice.

Land needs to be accessible to young and beginning farmers to help foster a new generation of stewards. Community voices should be heard and valued in government decisions, promoting participation, inclusion, and transparency.

We need to address systemic issues like racism, sexism, and discrimination against low-income individuals and minority groups. As a community organizer, I’ve had the good fortune of meeting thousands of Vermonters, many living in the towns I seek to represent, and I’ve learned that we share these values. I want to address these issues on our behalf. I am a staunch supporter of women’s reproductive rights. I am committed to protecting small businesses and farmers from predatory corporate practices and challenging the exploitation of labor. I believe in a just transition to a green economy, investing in renewable energy, creating green jobs, and ensuring a sustainable future for all Vermonters.

Our children deserve a state where their environment is clean, their communities are strong, and living in Vermont is affordable. As a representative, I will be a voice and a strong advocate for my constituents, bringing my agricultural experience, community advocacy, and environmental stewardship to the state house. I am ready to offer my vision as a public servant, inviting the community to join me in building a Vermont that values sustainable practices, inclusivity, and fairness.
