HARDWICK – Cooler and seasonal temperatures are becoming more frequent as we approach September, which is the beginning of meteorological fall. Our showers have become more scattered and we are frequently seeing temperatures drop into the upper 40s at night, with some scattered locations in the low-to-mid 40s. Rainfall amounts in the past seven days range from just under half an inch to an inch.
The battle of the airmasses started this past weekend, as warm and humid air on the backside of a ridge has raised daytime temperatures into the 80s and dewpoints have trended into the 60s. Nighttime fog settled in with the high humidity.
Ongoing showers and thunderstorms today, Wednesday, August 28, are associated with a passing cold front slated to bring less humid and seasonal temperatures back to the region, with the influence of high pressure to follow. Mostly sunny conditions will be dominant through Labor Day, with the exception of Saturday as a frontal system moderates weekend temperatures and introduces a steady rain. A second reinforcing shot of cold air crossing Vermont on Labor Day brings a chance of a few showers. Temperatures drop to slightly below normal. The sunshine will balance everything out, though, as we wrap up Labor Day Weekend… get out and enjoy it!
