HARDWICK – We are slowly settling into a new season around here as we ditch mild temperatures for more days with crisp, refreshing conditions and significant temperature drops overnight. Rain was present late on Saturday with the passage of a cold front. A lingering trough added to rainfall totals on Sunday, with chilly temperatures in its wake. Many of the sheltered valleys woke up Monday morning to low temperatures in the upper 30s, just shy of the frost threshold. Precipitation amounts clustered tightly around half an inch, with most of the work week remaining dry.
The upper low responsible for the rain this past weekend and a passing shower on Tuesday slides east into the Canadian Maritimes as high pressure at the surface and an upper-level ridge takes control of our weather for most of the forecast period beginning Wednesday, Sept. 11. This feature looks to be quite measured in its progression and strong enough to block the approach of foul weather, including Tropical Storm Francine, which will fizzle out over the lower Mississippi Valley by the end of the week.
Southwesterly winds will dominate until the weekend with moderation in temperatures as the week progresses. Some cooler air returns as the weekend approaches and the upper low slides back a bit, possibly bringing a few showers to wrap up the weekend, with a lengthy period of sunshine in the meantime. Now for the forecast. . .
Wednesday: Partly sunny. High: 70. Low: 45.

Friday: Sunny. High: 77. High: 54.
