To the editor:
Full admission, I’m a flatlander transplant. I am wrapping up my second year living in Hardwick and I’m still learning the vast cultural differences between rural Vermont and urban Dallas, Texas.
One person who has really helped my family acclimate is multi-generational native Hardwickian Sabrina Butterick Morrison. She started out as a random person who happened upon our doorstep to announce her campaign for the Caledonia-2 district house seat and has rapidly become a trusted family friend.
Though we are Texas natives, we are far from staunch conservatives. We consider ourselves more center left and that’s what puts Sabrina as our top choice for Caledonia 2. She understands from the perspective of a local working mom how difficult the affordability of everyday life can be. Taxes are necessary but if they are poorly managed they become excessive and wasteful. Her focus is simple. We need affordable, quality healthcare. We need fair taxes that efficiently fund excellent education for our children. We need affordable housing for everyone, especially young working people and elders. We need to maintain the natural beauty of this state.
Sabrina is easy to talk to, easy to befriend, an active listener. This is what is needed in representative government, approachable elected officials. Sabrina is well-versed on the challenges of rural life in Caledonia 2 and is ready and able to take our voice to Montpelier. For this she has my vote.
