Answering Questions for Bell Vote

Share article

To the editor:

A thoughtful alumnus asked, “what would happen to the Hardwick Academy Bell (if moved to Hazen), if Hazen Union, in theory, closed its doors?  What would happen to the Bell?”

We, the Hardwick Academy Hazen Union Alumni Association (HAHUAA) committee have discussed at our meetings creating a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Hazen Union, if the Bell goes there. We propose provisions that the Bell continues to belong to all HA Alumni while they are living, in partnership with Hazen. If, for some unlikely reason Hazen were to close, or make decisions, changes, that would move or displace our Bell, then stewardship returns to the surviving HA Alumni, and HAHUAA Alumni Association. Failing having a healthy and interested Alumni Association, stewardship goes to the Town of Hardwick for perpetual care and protection of the Bell.

A major goal of a vote for Hazen Union is to clarify that the Bell belongs to All HA Alumni, and enables the HAHUAA to establish safeguards for its future with an institution that will be enduring and has committed interest in school and town history. “
