Hazen Union runner Scarlett Podolin of Walden crosses the finish line in fourth place at 12:27 in the 1.55 mile race at the Hazen Union cross country meet October 15. There were 30 runners who competed in the girls’ 1.55 race.

The Hazen Union Cross Country meet, held on October 15, included 46 boys running in the middle school 1.55 mile race on Hardwick Trails. A total of 96 students from Danville, Craftsbury, Twinfield, Peoples, North Country and Main Street Middle School in Montpelier, joined Hazen to participate in the middle school boys 1.55 race, the middle school girls 1.55 race and the high school boys and girls 5K race.

Vanessa Fournier graduated from Hazen Union School in 1973 and went to work taking photos in Bennington, then returned to Hardwick to work for Vin Zecchinelli of Farland Studio for several years. She started her own photo business in 1979. She's been in photography for over 50 years, working for The Hardwick Gazette for 44 years. She retired in 2023 and is still taking pictures for The Gazette because she still loves what she does.
