HARDWICK – We’ve been treated to several days in a row of moderating temperatures and sunny skies, with highs reaching the low-to-mid 70s on Monday. Burlington reported a record high temperature of 77 degrees for the day, while we saw temperatures closer to 72 degrees here locally. It was a welcome break from the seasonable fall-like temperatures that have put a chill in the air the past two weeks. Precipitation amounts of just under two tenths of an inch of rain fell in the last seven days.

We will be treated to one more day of above-normal temperatures today, before a strong cold front begins to approach our region around sunset. Highs are expected to generally reach the low-to-mid 70s again before a quick dousing of rain and a few rumbles of thunder with the cold front’s arrival. A few rain showers linger into daybreak on Thursday, with rapid clearing and temperatures some 20 degrees cooler.
Those cool conditions don’t change much in the following three days, as another frontal boundary ejects from the northwest, approaching later Friday night into Saturday. Precipitation with this system looks to be more scattered, lasting into Sunday morning. Although less robust than the previous system, it may usher just enough cold air in again to douse our mid and higher elevations with a light coating of snow. We look to moderate again early next week but we’ll first have to contend with the cold. Here’s how the pattern progresses:
Wednesday: Mostly sunny in the morning, with increasing clouds by mid-afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms likely by sunset. High: 73. Low: 41.
Thursday: Becoming mostly sunny by afternoon. High: 50. Low: 30.|
Friday: Partly sunny. High: 54. Low: 39.
Saturday: Mostly cloudy, with scattered showers. High: 51. Low: 30.
Sunday: Partly cloudy. Scattered rain and snow showers. High: 39. Low: 25.
