Former Lady Chargers Wrap up Seasons on the Pitch
JOHNSON/CASTLETON – Former Craftsbury Academy (CA) multi-sport standouts Ida Eames and Sadie Skorstad, finished up their seasons earlier this month with their women’s college soccer teams.
Eames was solid once again for VTSU-Johnson, leading them to a 7-5-1 record, including 5-0-1 at home. The junior forward found the back of the net three times for the Lady Badgers, assisting on two other scores for eight points on the season. She fired off 10 shots for the offense and was 1-1 on penalty kick conversions. Eames started all 12 games for a VTSU-Johnson squad that advanced to the Final Four in the Northeast Athletic Conference tournament. She has 10 career goals and three assists in her three years at Johnson. Eames was a standout runner for CA’s track and cross-country teams, as well as the Lady Charger soccer and softball programs. Other former Vermont high school standouts on the Lady Badger roster include Shelby Royea and Kali Wooster (BFA-Fairfax), Jenna Pelland (MMU), and North Country’s Riann Fortin.
Skorstad saw action in three matches in her freshman campaign at VTSU-Castleton. The gritty defender brought toughness to a Lady Spartan squad that upset fourth-seeded Eastern Connecticut State in the first round of the Little East Conference tournament, before falling to top-seeded Southern Maine in the quarters. Skorstad was a standout multi-sport athlete for both CA and Hazen Union in track, cross country, soccer, softball, and basketball. VTSU-Castleton rebounded from a six-win season last fall with a 9-11-1 record this year. They heavily rebuilt the roster with former Vermont high school standouts that included Danville freshman forward Lilah Hall, who started six matches for the Lady Spartans this past fall.
Circosta’s Championship Season Ends at Regionals
WATERFORD, Conn. – Former Craftsbury Academy champion Leo Circosta and his Norwich University men’s cross-country team put a bow on a championship season last week with a solid finish at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regionals.
Circosta joined six of his teammates who qualified for regionals over the weekend, finishing 20th on the day. Circosta helped the Norwich program capture its twelfth Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) championship earlier this month. The freshman earned a GNAC Second Team selection for his outstanding season that included Rookie of the Week honors in September. The Cadets closed out one of their most dominant seasons in program history, with all seven of their runners earning GNAC honors. Head coach Michael McGrane was also named GNAC Coach of the Year.
